Protecting a Gymnasium During Roof Replacement

When a roofing contractor was brought in to perform a full deck replacement and install a new roofing system, they mentioned that protecting the school’s gymnasium was just as important as ensuring the roof was replaced successfully. Nusens was called in to provide a comprehensive interior protection plan to contain falling dust and debris while protecting the gym and its new hardwood floors.

Protecting a Gymnasium During Roof Replacement

The out going gypsum roof deck posed risks of both falling fragments and fine dust. To address this, we proposed a containment system solution that included both Debris Netting (installed to catch larger debris) and a standard Ceiling Containment System (CCS) to prevent airborne dust and smaller particles from making their way into the gym.

Protecting the new hardwood gym floors was equally critical. Installing a multi-layered system that created a stable and non-slip protective surface allowed us to install our Containment Systems using mobile elevated working platforms, without the worry of machinery damaging the floor throughout the process.

The nature of the pre-existing conditions on this project resulted in an above-average amount of debris that accumulated in our containment systems. Our system held firm, earning praise from the roofer and client for its strength and versatility.

Upon mobilization to remove our Ceiling Containment and Debris Netting Systems, we performed High Structure Cleaning on the walls, bleachers, joists, and other high-structure elements before removing the floor protection to restore the area of work to its original appearance.
